For one whole year, up to the middle of 1944, the bomber's performance was hampered by a high accident rate. Its large bomb capacity, powerful and effective defensive armament, and state-of-the-art equipment would have turned the Superfortress into the best heavy bomber of World War II if not for engine breakdowns that continually plagued the aircraft. The B-29 was equipped with a large amount of radio equipment for various purposes. Three armament options were available for the rear mount, controlled by an independent air gunner: a 20 mm Hispano-Bendix AN-M2 cannon and two 12.7 mm Colt-Browning M2.5 machine guns, three 12.7 mm machine guns, or two 12.7 mm machine guns.Ī bomb load of up to 9,000 kg was housed in two bomb bays, where cluster racks were mounted. All weapons were aimed at the target from three sighting stations located in blisters and from the bombardier's station. Some aircraft had an upper front turret equipped with four machine guns. ![]() Each turret housed two 12.7 mm Colt-Browning M2.5 machine guns with 500-1,000 rounds each. The defensive armament of the Superfortress included four remotely controlled turrets: two below the fuselage and two above. В-29s had Wright R-3350-23 eighteen-cylinder, radial air-cooled engines producing a maximum power of 2,200 hp, with four-bladed automatic propellers. Full-scale production of the aircraft was started in June 1943. The XB-29 prototype model performed its maiden flight on September 21, 1942. ![]() ![]() The B-29 (Model 345) was developed by the Boeing Aircraft design department in early 1940. ![]() ![]() They could be discovered only by the deliberate process of stopping the turntable and slowly turning it backwards by hand. Not only were the messages often subliminal, but also they were supposedly recorded backwards. Surely the most absurd manifestation of belief in subliminals, however, came in the late 1970s and early 1980s when rock musicians, especially heavy-metal bands, were accused of hiding paeans to sex, drugs, and Satan in the grooves of their vinyl record albums. He also saw the word “sex” in many places, including in the ice cubes in a glass of gin and in the salt crystals on the surface of a Ritz cracker. Oddly, nobody noticed this until Key suggested they look for it. The title of The Clam-Plate Orgy, for example, refers to a photo on a restaurant menu in which fried clams were arranged to resemble a large-scale sexual orgy, involving numerous men and women, as well as a donkey. Furthermore, large retailers have shelled out hefty licensing fees for in-store music loaded with messages urging customers not to shoplift (and to buy something).īelief in subliminal appeals to consumers also led to one of the more interesting conspiracy theories of our time in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with a series of books by Wilson Bryan Key (titles included Subliminal Seduction and The Clam-Plate Orgy) in which he claimed that advertisers were concealing graphic sexual images in all sorts of ads, to increase sales to people who had no idea they were being manipulated in this way. Despite the nearly total lack of evidence that such a product could work as advertised, these tapes are a $50 million-a-year business. Numerous companies, for example, sell self-help audiotapes containing subliminal messages which are alleged to help the listener lose weight, quit smoking, become more confident, become a better lover, find one’s mate, overcome stage fright, make smarter investments, and nearly anything else a person might wish to improve upon. Although the account of this phenomenon, provided by an advertising man (of course) turned out to be a hoax, the idea that such hidden messages can influence behavior is an enduring one. The customers were unaware of having seen the messages, but popcorn sales increased by 58 percent, although Coca-Cola sales increased a comparatively disappointing 15 percent. In 1957 a New Jersey movie theater flashed messages reading “drink Coke” and “eat popcorn” on the screen for a single frame’s duration (1/24 of a second) during a feature presentation. ![]() Installation assistance with child safety seats is accepted by appointment only. ![]() The NMBPD offers child safety seat installation by our certified technicians. ![]() When those three sentences are separated into their own short blocks of scene description, they create a rhythm. This is what I want you to see. Now you see this. Now this happens. When you have visuals crammed together in long paragraphs, the reader’s brain interprets that block differently, despite the same description being used. If you pay attention to how those three sentences read, you’ll notice that there’s a beat to that. Think of each block of scene description as a visual that you are throwing at the reader. They pack multiple visuals into one single block of scene description. The problem many screenwriters have is that their blocks of scene description are often very thick and long. The first scene example above had two blocks of scene description. It could be just one sentence, two, three, four, or (hopefully not) more. Create a Rhythm for Your Scene DescriptionĪ block of scene description refers to the amount of “ink” used before a blank space. Hence, you’ll be offering them more effective scene description.īut that’s not all you can do. Sure, that rewrite would only save you a couple of lines within your script, but if you embrace this Less Is More mantra and apply that to each and every line of scene description in your script, the difference will be substantial.Īnd the most important aspect will be describing each visual quickly enough where the reader can process it at lightning speed. The second example just gets to the point without poetic detail. If you compare the two, they both are describing the same visual. However, take a look at this whittled-down version. A lesser writer would have used another paragraph to go further into detail, trying to capture some sort of particular atmosphere for what is basically one image for the reader to visualize. Two sentences in one block and one long sentence in another. This scene description block isn’t the worst we’ve seen by any means. And when you think you’ve accomplished that, whittle it down even more. ![]() To master compressed imagery, you have to learn how to whittle everything down to the core. You instead need to embrace the art of compressed imagery where you eliminate those elongated elements from your prose and get to the point so the reader can see that visual and move onto the next as quickly as possible. In a screenplay, there’s no room for that type of writing. The best thing you can do as a screenwriter is offer them that latter content partnered with a cinematic read.Īnyone can write a long, multi-paragraph description of a setting or action sequence where you articulate descriptive sights, sounds, and atmosphere - and then put together poetic descriptions of each of those details. A reader would rather read a conventional screenplay that reads in a way where they feel they watching a movie, as opposed to a more original screenplay that feels that they’re reading a long novel. That’s how cinematic screenplays are born. The fewer words you use to describe a visual the better. You’re not using the scene description to go into specific detail about the sets, the locations, the character’s wardrobe, each and every movement, etc. Your job is very simple as a screenwriter - convey what the reader is supposed to envision in broad stroke form, and do so as quickly as possible. Here are five best practices to help you write effective scene description that will make your screenplays become the coveted page-turners that script readers crave for. Instead, they either focus on directing the camera or go into specific detail with long-winded scene description. Sadly, most novice screenwriters fail to understand the importance of writing cinematically. You want the reader to be able to decipher the visuals you are describing in your scene description as quickly as possible - as if they were reels of film flashing before their eyes. Dialogue is fairly straightforward.īut it’s scene description that truly holds the key to the success of your screenplay, specifically from the standpoint of how easy it is for the reader to truly experience your story in cinematic fashion. Read ScreenCraft’s Screenwriting Basics: The Keys to Writing Correct Scene Headings!Ĭharacter names are obvious. They consist of three elements - interior or exterior, location, and day or night (with some variations). Those elements can be utilized, but only sparingly so and only when completely necessary. Anything else - camera directions, transitions, and parentheticals - rarely do anything beyond creating more for the reader to read and process, which slows down the read of the script. The four basic elements of screenwriting format are scene heading, scene description, character name, and dialogue. ![]() What are the best and most effective ways to write cinematic scene description that keeps the reader invested, engaged, and lost in the visuals of your movie? ![]() Fixed an issue where the Wheelson could be deployed on top of other vehicles.Fixed an issue where the Player would have their controls locked if they tried to re-enter a Recon Drone as it dies, while looking through a Spotter Scope.Fixed an issue where exiting the Tactical Camera would sometimes leave a blurry screen.Redesigned AAR and Scoreboard to accommodate 6v6 and larger matches.General visual improvements to the HUD in Gunfight.Added a POI label under the Compass in Gunfight.Added reticles and tracers to the Loadout preview in Gunfight.Additions and improvements to the HUD for Search and Destroy and Rescue Modes. ![]()

![]() When playing a Cleric, it is essential to focus on their core functions within your party. They do this by utilizing heavy armor to block incoming damage, Necromancy spells to heal themselves, and Hydrosophist spells to help out their nearby allies. The Cleric is a great magical melee class capable of supporting their allies through buffs and healing and working as strong tanks. Primary Abilities: Bartering, Hydrosophist, Necromancer.Primary Attributes: Intelligence, Strength.Starting Skills: Blood Sucker, Decaying Touch, Restoration. If you can, you should also get Morning Person so that if your Battlemage does ever go down, they can be revived with total health and jump right back into the fight. ![]() They allow you to invest more into their Attributes and Skills, which are the meat of a successful Battlemage. While leveling up, I have found traits like Know-It-All, Bigger and Better, and All Skilled Up to work excellently for this class. The Battlemage begins with Opportunist, which allows them to make attacks of opportunity whenever an enemy in melee range moves away from them. Regardless of which you choose, Constitution should be your second focus, allowing you to stay on your feet while on the enemy side of the battlefield.Īs you level up, you’ll also need to pick numerous Talents. Strength is helpful in making a melee-centric build, while Intelligence is required to make a magic-centric one. Instead, you should pick one and build accordingly. If you need to, you’ll even be able to teleport enemies around the battlefield, allowing you to force them into larger groups to be even more effective.Īs Battlemage is a very versatile class, you should ensure not to invest in both Strength and Intelligence. Aerotheurge will also allow you to focus on capturing enemies in groups and punishing them with powerful area-of-effect spells. The class can be built to use any magic skill, but starting with Aerotheurge is easiest since it starts with a point already invested in it. When it comes to playing a Battlemage, it is all about positioning and damage output. While they have some survivability, they are far from being a tank class, so don’t expect them to take too many hits for your party. They are typically equipped with a staff and are extremely capable of wearing down the magic armor of enemies. To do so, it uses Aerotheurge to damage groups of enemies while using its Warfare abilities to keep itself alive at the center of combat encounters. The Battlemage is a frontline magic class that deals extreme amounts of damage to enemies.

Easy to start, simple to use, and vice versa Work confidently with a powerful project management tool that makes getting started and managing projects both simple and easy. ![]() In other words, they work really well together.Įven nowadays, this combination is still a good choice, but some "problems" might be highlighted: You can use either Lerna or Yarn Workspaces to manage your repository, but you may have noticed that they are more complementary than exclusionary. Yarn Workspaces is a low-level tool that handles the packages installation, creates a symlink between projects, and allocates the modules in root and controlled projects folders. You can run commands (e.g., build, test, lint) for all the projects you control with a single command-line instruction, or if you prefer, you can even filter a specific project with the flag -scope. Lerna is a high-level monorepo tool that provides abstractions to simultaneously manage a single or multiple apps/packages. That was the moment I saw with my own eyes how amazing it's working a monorepo. With the bare minimum setup, I started to create even more small independent modules/apps to re-use, extend and try out new tools without impacting my existing code. Still, I managed everything and had a decent setup. Of course, along the setup process, I had had some gotchas like understanding why some builds were failing (not all apps likes hoisted dependencies), had to adapt my pipelines, and how I deployed each project. I tried some solutions, and the easiest way to get up and running was Lerna + Yarn Workspaces. The tools need module/file resolution, and I didn't want to ship all projects when I was about to deploy.Īt that moment, I realized I needed a monorepo tool to do this linking and make my experience better. Unfortunately, I couldn't simply drop the files there, extend, and hope it works because things are more complex than that. My first instinct was: What if I put all projects inside a single folder and repository, create my base config and use it to extend each project's config? Every new thing I learned like a new eslint rule, I agree, I had to go in there and change three times and so on. Soon, I became bothered by every dependency update (like TypeScript) I had to update in all repositories (three pull requests). I had 3 git repos implied that I had 3 eslint, prettier, jest, babel, and typescript configs, but I handled it for a while. Once again, another new git repository containing its code and setup. Then, I decided to fork a library called mdx-prism to fix some minor problems and automate its deployment. Then I created a Strapi application, put it into another git repository, and pushed it to another Github repo. When I first created my blog, I bootstrapped a Next.js application, put it into a git repository, and pushed the scaffolding code there.Īfter a while, I needed to set up the CMS to hold my content. Yet there's one ("new") option that might help us in most cases: pnpm workspaces.īut before talking about pnpm, let me tell you my monorepo/workspaces usage and how I managed to solve that in the first place. Unfortunately, we don't have a killer tool that fits all types of JavaScript/Typescript projects and all sizes of teams, and that's understandable. If you Google "monorepo tool javascript", you'll find many articles showing the most popular options we have, and curiously each one attempts to solve that problem in a very different way.įrom the options we have, some are there for a while (like Lerna) but no longer actively maintained others never went out from draft (like Bolt), others are working fine but only for a specific kind of project. The biggest challenge, though, is finding an easy-to-use tool for handling such a structure. Monorepo architecture has become more popular over the years, which is understandable considering the problem it solves. This article was published on Nov 17, 2021, and takes approximately 11 minutes to read. Replacing Lerna + Yarn with PNPM Workspaces |
